Pacific Legal Group was founded in 2019 by attorney Leilani Cantu-Buffone as a way to distinguish the unique approach she offers her clients from other legal options available. Leilani had worked for a large firm in a litigation capacity before the time she started her practice and found the experience to be a culture that she did not want to recreate. While she appreciates all that she learned during that time, she wanted to provide her client base with a service that created a personal relationship with them.
Pacific Legal Group primarily focuses on wills and estates litigations, focusing on trust and probate litigation. At this time , Pacific Legal Group is working to expand its litigation offerings to include family law and real property dispute resolution. Leilani’s goal is to provide an alternative to the all too common practice of billable hours and availability of resources present in the traditional law firm environment. She believes that a valuable attorney/client relationship is forged when a personal and direct connection with the client and the firm is established. She accomplishes this through open and direct communication with clients and by providing them regular updates and distributions of case activity that would be considered rare in most other law firms. One of the very few nepotistic branches of the firm, Leilani’s receptionist is her sister, Gwendolyn Cantu, who also works as a paralegal to the firm. Gwendolyn is a certified paralegal (in California) who brings both writing and paralegal experience to the Company.

One of the most significant litigation successes for Pacific Legal Group involved a high-stakes litigation against an insurance company where the stakes are large. The insurance company relied upon an ambiguous Florida statute as a basis for denying payment of medical benefits. However, the ambiguous nature of the statute precluded its use to deny benefits. Not only did the firm obtain a favorable ruling, the trial court also awarded significant attorney fees and costs against the insurance company for failing to reimburse our client for all medical expenses. An out-of-state client, who was in a wheelchair , was stopped at a red light in the City of San Diego when he was struck from behind by another vehicle. Our client was hospitalized overnight at UCSD and subsequently received prescriptions from a CVS pharmacy. The pharmacy overcharged our client for two items while charging him the correct amount for the other two. The client attempted to obtain a refund from the pharmacy but was routinely transferred from one pharmacy employee to another – without receiving a refund. After we became involved, however, a senior district manager of CVS Pharmacy agreed to look into the matter and, after doing so, reimbursed the client for the erroneous credit card charge.
